A new gas line is priced by length and complexity. A short, accessible run to an appliance a few feet from existing gas is straightforward. A line that has to cross the house, get sized up to carry more demand, or pass under a concrete slab or landscaping takes more pipe, more fittings, and more labor — every turn has to be measured, cut, threaded, and sealed. As a rough guide, expect roughly $18–$30 per linear foot for a typical run, more for complex ones.

A gas line to a pool or spa heater on the equipment pad. Pool heaters demand a lot of gas, so the line usually has to be a larger diameter and is often a longer run to the equipment area — the highest-demand outdoor hookup we do.

What sets the pricePool heaters are gas-hungry. Sizing the line correctly for the BTU load — and the distance to the equipment pad — is what drives this one. Undersize it and the heater won't perform.

Detection and repair are two separate steps. First we locate the leak — with a gas detector and a pressure test that isolates which section is failing. Then we repair it: sometimes it's a loose fitting we can tighten and re-seal, sometimes it's a corroded section that has to be cut out and replaced, sometimes it's a buried yard line. We price the detection, then the repair once we know what it is.

Leak Detection & Pressure Test

Locating the leak with a meter and isolating the failing section by pressure-testing the system. This is the diagnosis — it tells us exactly what the repair will be before you commit to it.

Not every gas job is a full line run. Some are the small but important pieces that make a system safe and to code — a sediment trap, a dedicated shutoff, a pressure test for a real-estate sale or a suspected problem. And one of the most common gas jobs we do is sizing up a line for a tankless water heater conversion.

Tankless units need far more gas than a tank heater — a 1/2" line usually has to be upsized to 3/4" or larger. We size and run the upgraded line so the unit fires correctly. The conversion's biggest hidden cost is almost always the gas.
